I am very excited to announce that a new book is available in both digital and print versions called Concussion Discussions: A Functional Approach to Recovery After Brain Injury, compiled by Dr. Shane Steadman and Amy Zellmer.
In this book, I was a contributing author and wrote a chapter titled Chinese Medicine: A Multi-Modality System with Applications in Healing Brain Injuries. I feel strongly about the power of Chinese medicine for healing the body and the brain, and have been working hard to share this information with patients as well as practitioners. That is why it was so important to me to have Chinese medicine represented in this book.
The book is currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter now through March 2nd … for $18 plus free US shipping (other reward levels are also available) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brainhealthmag/book-concussion-discussions This anthology brings together 20 leading experts from around the country who share with you their advice and experience working with brain injury patients. If you or one of your patients has suffered a brain injury, this book offers a wealth of information, but, more importantly, also offers HOPE!

A Sneak Peak:
Chinese Herbal Medicine
The consensus across all disciplines regarding TBI rehabilitation is that each brain injury is unique, and thus, each treatment program needs to be tailored to the individual. This is where Chinese herbal medicine shines. It is the opposite of a one-size-fits-all approach. Applications of specific herbal combinations include strengthening blood vessels to promote overall circulatory health, improving cerebral blood flow, enhancing the brain’s lymphatic clearance of metabolic waste, and modulating the immune system in the brain to minimize immune-mediated neuroinflammation. Due to the complexity of Chinese herbal medicine formulations, they should only be prescribed by someone licensed and trained in Chinese herbal medicine (not by Dr. Google).
