Description
This course is the first in a series focused on concussion recovery and management for the Chinese medicine practitioner. This course provides the essential foundational information Chinese medicine practitioners need in order to work with patients with post-concussion syndrome. It covers the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of post-concussion syndrome, the most up-to-date research on concussions, case studies and clinical gems.
Topics include:
- Terminology of traumatic brain injuries and concussions
- Detailed pathophysiology of concussions including primary and secondary injuries to the brain
- The role of the immune system in acute and chronic inflammatory responses
- Excitotoxicity and immunoexcitotoxicity
- Tau proteins and amyloid beta accumulations
- Defining post-concussion syndrome:
- The clinical presentation of post-concussion syndrome including physical, emotional, behavioral, & cognitive symptoms, autonomic dysregulation, vestibular and oculomotor dysfunction
- Traumatic neck injury – overlapping symptomatology
- Clinical presentation of chronic traumatic encephalopathy
- Key questions in performing an intake
- Case studies
- Clinical gems
